Commercial Ventures and Alberta Business Sales Inc. has developed a course offering/educational series that will help all business owners who want to exit their business right now, or down the road. This educational series is aimed at all business owners who want to exit their way. No sale or exit is the same and we will help all owners exit in a way that is best for them. This course will offer very practical information, delivered by seasoned instructors who have helped owners sell to the market, as well as to staff and family.

This will be a 2-part series. The first course will offer the basics of selling and what you need to know. After that you can choose how you want your exit to be, either to the market or to a buyer you know. In conjunction with the course we are offering a 1-hour free consultation to all attendees to discuss their own individual situation but also to answer questions in a private and confidential setting. No business is too big or too small to attend.

PART 1: EXITING YOUR BUSINESS

THIS IS A 4 SESSION SERIES:

SESSION 1: EXIT OPTIONS & PERSONAL READINESS

Date: October 7, 2021 & November 4, 2021.

Facilitated by: Neil Gerritsen

In the first of four sessions, you will explore questions like “what is my motivation to sell?”, alongside exit options open for discussion with a homework assignment: “Grade my business from 1 to 10”.

SESSION 2: BUSINESS READINESS

Date: October 14, 2021 & November 10, 2021.

Facilitated by: Neil Gerritsen

In session 2, you will work with the facilitator to determine your value drivers, as well as accounting and legal accounting, sale structure and asset vs. share sale.

SESSION 3: BUSINESS VALUE

Date: October 21, 2021 & November 23, 2021.

Facilitated by: Neil Gerritsen

In session 3, you will learn about Valuation Basic & Normalizations, and explore modules like “Why do people want to buy your business?”, “Value of the business sale” & “Seeing your business from a buyer perspective.” with a homework assignment: “Adjustments/normalizations”.

SESSION 4: TIMELINES & SCENARIO PLANNING

Date: October 28, 2021 & November 29, 2021.

Facilitated by: Neil Gerritsen

In session 4, you will answer questions like “where are you today?” & “Which way will I go?”.

You will do an Exit Options review and answer if the course met your expectations.

PART 2: COURSE OPTIONS

PART 2A: GOING TO MARKET

Date: January 13, 20 & 27, 2022 and February 3, 2022, 9:30am – 11:00am MST.

If your sale is more than 3 years away, Part 2A of the series, Going to Market, provides you with a template to dig deep into the action items that require your attention and an implementation plan to help you use your Exit Plan on a consistent go-forward basis.  Learn how to build your advisor team and how to engage them with your exit plan along the way.

PART 2B: SELLING TO WHO I KNOW

Date: January 12, 19, & 26, 2022 and February 2, 2022, 9:30am – 11:00am MST.

If you plan to sell your business to a non-family member within the next 2-3 years, Part 2B of the series, Selling to Who You Know, gives you a clear outline of the sale process and checklists to help you prepare to engage with buyers.  Dig deeper into what you need to get organized, what buyers are expecting from you, and how to negotiate and structure your deal.

With 21 years of banking under his belt, Neil brings specialized financial knowledge in buying and selling of businesses up to $10,000,000, as well as Franchise Sales & Franchise Development through his flagship business, Alberta Business Sales.

In May of 2021, Gerritsen acquired Commercial Ventures, an exit planning/consulting firm with a mandate to work with clients to facilitate transferring ownership of their business to either staff or family.

Alongside his professional experience in mergers & acquisition, franchise sales & development, Neil is passionate about business sales and business transition, solidifying that message with a personal value of “collaborating to meet your goals”.

Neil enjoys spending his time traveling around the world, amateur football, his children & his family.
